Rachel Rutland Maryanovskaya

Rachel Maryanovakaya is originally from Columbus, Ohio, but has made Indianapolis her home for many years. After completing high school in three years, Rachel went on to study at the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. After two years of study of various dance arts and successful completion of Pre-Graduate and Graduate exams, she graduated and received her diploma.

Rachel went on to dance professionally with the Makarov Ballet Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, Colorado Ballet, Ballet Internationale and Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre. In the classical repertoire, she has danced soloist roles in ballets such as Swan Lake, Creation of the World, La Sylphide, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, Carmen and Dracula. As the leading character dancer at Ballet Internationale, Rachel performed such favorites as Mercedes and The Gypsy in Don Quixote, Carabosse in The Sleeping Beauty and Mazjana in 1001 Nights. Rachel was also featured in various soloist and principal roles in the GHDT repertoire.

Rachel has served as a member of the Faculty of Columbus Dance International, The Clara R. Noyes Academy of Ballet Internationale, and The Academy of Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre, teaching ballet, pointe and variations. She was also a featured teacher at the Summer Workshops of these schools. Rachel spent five years as a dance instructor at De Veau’s School of Gymnastics.

Since the conclusion of her sixteen-year career as a professional dancer, Rachel is excited to be pursuing a career in Nursing.
